The Crux of Mr. Kaepernick
Lately, the world of social media has been on the buzz about the infamous Colin Kaepernick and his stand against the oppression of certain group of people. Colin decided to make his protest pronounced and so when the National Anthem began to play, instead of adhering to U.S. Code Title 36, Subtitle I, Part A, Chapter 3, Subsection 301, Item C which states [during the playing of the national anthem] "all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart" he decided to take a knee.In an act that defied in the opinions of many the very ideals upon which this country stands, he was immediately attacked for his actions.
Popular opinion pundit, Tomi Lahren of The Blaze was one of first to pick up her stone and launch them in what could only be described as an attack on his character. The privileged pundit went on to create her own interpretation of his press conference in which he elaborated on his reasoning and created a firestorm in the process. But the it continued on both sides of the fence. More people took to their knees and more people began the bashings of these people. More people picked up their stones in essence and critisized Colin and not one person [that I've seen or heard] has sought to address the reason behind his protest. They are so quick to call him "Un-American" or "Unpatriotic" or describe him as being disrespectful to the men and women who are over seas fighting for his right to protest.
No one is asking the question or seeking to understand Mr. Kaepernick, they are too busy crucifying him like the good little Americans that we are. The most sickening thing in all of this is the fact that a majority of the people who are bashing him for disrespecting the national anthem and our country are the very people who've been disrespecting the current president. If you can't respect the president then you need to close your moth and need not open it again. He isn't dropping to his knee for kicks and giggle. He wants to start a dialogue. He wants to bring attention to an area that is constantly overlooked. When the Black Lives Matter movement tried to rise, the media created the All Lives Matter movement in an effort to take away from the message. This message, they can't control and they can't contain it and that is what upsets them the most and by "them" I'm referring the right wing masses who can't seem to acknowledge that whole groups of people feel oppressed. While I may not agree with the type of protest he's doing, I applaud him for standing up for what he believes in.
